cracker - a simple UNIX password-cracking tool


What is 'cracker'?

A simple tool that scans a UNIX or NIS/YP password file and tries a "dictionary attack" against it's encrypted passwords using a table of words ("the dictionary") to advise the system administrator if any users are using dangerously insecure passwords (common words that occur in a dictionary).
